Sacramento, CA asked in Health Care Law and Personal Injury for California

Q: Who is responsible for medical bills in a hit and run. I am a school crossing guard and got hit?

How does a health care lien apply to getting hurt while at work. I am a school crossing guard and was in the crosswalk. I only filed a police report. I Was hit by a van that did not stop. I got medicsl treatment the same day. Just received a lien letter on behalf of the hospital. Doesn't workers comp have to pay if I didn't file a lawsuit?

A: Some medical providers file liens as a matter of course to put the world on notice that there is a balance due to the medical provider. The fact that a lien was filed does not mean that you will owe significant bills once worker's compensation pays. You should contact a local worker's compensation attorney to get advice on this matter. You may also be covered for medical bills under your own automobile insurance policy even though you were injured as essentially a pedestrian. Good luck.
