Hermitage, PA asked in Medical Malpractice for Pennsylvania

Q: Can I sue the children's hospital if they never gave me the medicine I needed?

When I was 15 I was diagnosed with graves disease (very serious disease). Every time I went to my appointments at the children's hospital I always had new doctor. And every time they asked the same questions, ran the same tests and never treated me. My symptoms have always been the same so I thought everything was normal. That's until I went to my local doctor three months ago. He was mortified that the other doctors had not treated me since my levels were EXTREMELY high. He then ran tests and said that I was stable. Three months later (today), my levels are dangerously high, I have a nodule on my thyroid gland, and I might need radiation. Every time I have spoken to someone in the past about my condition, they instantly become afraid for me and tell me how dangerous it is to not be on medicine. I am now 20 years old and have never received treatment for a serious disease.

A: I'm not clear that you have received treatment. If not seems something about your condition is holding doctors back. A problem is I'm not hearing that a doctor says use medication ______, it's used, and seems to have some effect. Second problem is that there is a statute of limitations. If you only found out you should have been on medication over two years ago it's too late if you are over 20. But review your facts with a member of the Pennsylavania Association for Justice who handles medical malpractice. To get your records from the hospital cheaply, ask them to put them on a disc (assuming they are kept electronically).
