Marion, IN asked in Criminal Law for Indiana

Q: What can I do?

My husband and father in law got arrested for possession of stolen property and a 50,005 cash bond My father in law has wrote a letter stating my husband was not involved that he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time! We filed for a motion of discovery and waiting He didn't do anything and his father is even backing the story! His bond is unreasonable! Is there anything more that I can do? He has a court appointed lawyer but of course he is with the city of marion so he isn't going out of his way to listen to my husband's story the detectives think he is lying and won't even listen to what he has to say and now he has a court date September 19th 4 1/2 months away!! We have 4 children my husband is working on disability and needs to be at home and at his Dr appointments he has had 3 back surgeries and they won't get on the ball to get his medication he has to take!!! They are treating him as If he robbed them people himself!! What else can I do?

A: Your husband's lawyer should file a request for a bond reduction. If you are unhappy with the services of your husband's public defender your only other option is to hire counsel, even if for the limited purpose of filing for a bond reduction.
