Kissimmee, FL asked in Civil Rights and Public Benefits for Florida

Q: Can we do anything about the below situation? I fear for their lives if we can not prevent this from happening again.

My daughter has sunshine state health through Medicaid. She receives free transportation for her and her daughter to go to medical appts. My issue is that on one of her transportation times recently, the driver told her she had to hold my 2.5 month old grand child in her arms for the entire trip back home and if she did not do that then she was going to leave her and my grand baby there stranded, and a storm was approaching. I am out raged that my tax payer dollars are paying to assist families in need and they are receiving this kind of services. No one seems to be doing anything about this and this is our second situation with a transportation issue. We have filed both complaints with them and they have done nothing. The first time the driver was using his phone while driving the whole trip and was very careless. Any advice you can give on what our rights are would be greatly appreciated.

A: You indicate that you have complained to Sunshine Health/ Medicaid. You might also notify your congressional representatives and senators. Notify your Florida legislative representatives and senators. Notify the governor. This isn't problem that can be solved by a lawsuit, if that is what you are asking for.
