Q: Who is at fault when car turning left hits truck going around car on left side?

Car was using directional and moving slow when truck passed in oncoming traffic lane, left lane. Car turning hit the truck and owner of truck is threatening law suit if driver of the car doesn't give him money. Driver of truck refuses to give written estimate and photos of damage. Neither driver was sited.

A: A lot depends on the lanes, who hit who were and in relation to what lane etc.

If he had a right to be in the left lane, and you are the turning vehicle, it's your obligation to be aware not just of what's going on to your left but what's going on in the traffic coming your way before you turn left. When in doubt it tends to be on you.Only pay him if you have no injuries, your deductible is more than what he wants from you, and you know he is the owner, and he signs a full release before you give him the check (at which time he has to give ID. Do not accept "I didn't bring it...").

No the check isn't good enough.

The best,easiest practice is to always turn these things over to your insurance. Let them deal with him.
