Asked in Family Law and Juvenile Law for Florida

Q: Hello, I am a 17 year old female and I am currently employed.

I am buying my own truck (paying for the truck in full and paying my own insurance) and i am planning to remove myselfe fron my familys plan. I will buy my own phone making payments and pay the the service itself. If my Father wanted to take either my phone or truck (as punishment or something else) Can he technically do that? If so, is there a way for me to fight that?

A: Yes, he technically can. The only thing you can do (other than remaining in good graces with your father at least until you turn 18) would be to get someone to petition the court for you, to have your disabilities of minority removed. That is rather complicated (and you have not indicated that you are able to pay all of your living expenses yourself), so I recommend that you tough it out until you turn 18.
