Oakland, CA asked in Estate Planning and Probate for California

Q: My father passed away in 2001 in new hamp. and his girlfriend kept everything. Is it too late to ask for property?

The girlfriend was in/out of his life for about 12 years, they had lived together in new hampshire for about 2 years prior to his passing. She has my moms wedding photos, small furniture items like clocks, his watches and rings, all of his clothes, his tools, etc. She sent me a jacket and a tie -- i have no idea why. My mother would really like her wedding photos and clock, and i would really like his clothes/jewelry -- purely sentimental in their value.

A: Yes, of course you can ask for some property from the girlfriend.
