Shreveport, LA asked in Car Accidents for Louisiana

Q: In a car wreck yesterday, scared even though I wasn't at fault...

We were at a 3-way stop and I was at a stop sign turning left onto a two-lane road. The traffic going right was at a standstill because of school. I looked left and right and a lady let me out in front of her so I could turn left. After waiting for a car to pass going the direction I was headed in I started to pull out behind the car that had just passed me. All of a sudden there was a flash of red in front of me and the next thing I know I hit a truck in the side. The boy driving the truck was not only going around a curve quickly, he was in the wrong lane. He was trying to bypass the long line of school traffic instead of waiting. The cops weren't really any help at all at the scene. I just found out from my claim that they hired an attorney. We're still waiting on the insurance companies to decide who is at fault. I can't afford a lawyer. I wasn't injured in the crash my my mental health is in shambles from constant anxiety attacks since the wreck. Can he sue me no matter what??

A: Why not contact a member of the La. Trial Lawyers Assn/Assn for Justice? They give free consultations. Anyone can file suit. You should not give statements to anyone until you've had your consult and certainly not to the other person's insurance or attorney. (They'll claim they can't do anything without your statement but that's bs--they want to get you to say things not helpful to you). Gave a statement?Get a copy, and give not more. Get copy of police report.
