Asked in DUI / DWI for California

Q: Dui in IL. Suspension is up. I had a license issued in CA but lost it and got an IL ID card. Is my CA one still valid?

When I check the CA dmv site it says my license is still valid and they sent a paper saying I have a valid license but they don't mail physical licenses. My car is registered to my mom in CA but I don't have a front plate and I'm worried I could get pulled over. I paid my fines and got an official letter from the Secretary of State that says if I had a valid license before the summary suspension with no other infractions I'm ok to drive. A lot of people have a permanent address and a mailing address and because I plan to return to CA I leave my permanent address as the CA one and the mailing as the IL one. I don't have anyone to drive me to the DMV otherwise I would to save all this headache. I'm still on probation for the DUI so I really need to stay out of trouble.

A: If CA says your license is still valid, and if the IL SOS says your previous license is valid, then get a duplicate CA license.
