Compton, CA asked in Arbitration / Mediation Law and Legal Malpractice for California

Q: What's better in attorney fee arbitration for client/public: the Client Security Fund or the Beverly Hills Bar Assoc.?

We file a complaint against unscrupulous attorney with the California State Bar.

We now want to file claim requesting attorney fee arbitration.

Also how long does arbitration take?

How much (estimate) would an attorney charge to represent in arbitration?

Where can I find an attorney for first consultation about and potential representation in fee arbitration?

A: Your first priority should be the malpractice claim. For that reason I suggest you search for a lawyer who handles legal malpractice. There are not very men of them, but I suspect the Beverly Hills Bar Association might have a list. If that does not get you one, try the L.A. county Bar Association. You can also Google: "malpractice attorney Los Angeles."

Then talk to him about your fee dispute. Without the malpractice claim, you would be entitled to select binding or non-binding arbitration, and your malpractice attorney's advice on that issue would be very important. He might advise adding that to the malpractice claim, which I suspect would not be an uncommon combination. A regular arbitration might take one to six months, depending on the availability of an arbitrator. More often I would think 2-4 weeks would not be unheard of. But get your malpractice attorney first!
