Boston, MA asked in Internet Law for Massachusetts

Q: Is Facebook allowed to make me install or execute unwanted software on my system?

Okay, so I recently got locked out of my Facebook account because they assumed that I had a virus on my system. No big deal, until I was forced to download an Antivirus software on my system and run a scan for viruses before I could log back in! I know that I don't have viruses on my system because I am running a heavy end Antivirus software. I was still forced otherwise by them! The results came in as I suspected with no viruses! Is Facebook allowed to make me install or execute unwanted software on my system?

A: If you want to use their service, then by installing the software and running it on your system, you're making that choice to comply with their request. I don't see how they're "forcing" you. The best first step is an Initial Consultation with an Attorney. You can read more about me on my law practice website.
