Q: What is the Alabama motor vehicle liability or damage arising from injuries?
If I am insured in Georgia and traveling through Alabama, and involved in an accident, I am covered by Alabama or Georgia liabilities and responsibilities bodily injury upon motor accident law.
And if so what is my responsibility to my occupants?
A:
Depends who is at fault. Alabama law governs liability--who is at fault and what they cover. Georgia law covers everyone's dealingwith their insurance company.
Generally passengers are blameless and can sue one or both drivers in a wreck. If there isn't enough money to go around, they may have a claim for "underinsured motorist coverage," if your car or theirs has it. That isn't a claim against you but is based on their being in your car.
If you weren't at fault contact a member of the Ga. Trial Lawyers Assn--they give free consults.
If you were at fault, then let your insurance company handle it.
