Piscataway, NJ asked in Traffic Tickets for New Jersey

Q: What would happen if you surpass a school bus who is making a turning?

My friend was making a left turn to the parking lot from the right side of the road. It's a raining night and in his turning process, he didn't see that on his right there's a university school bus making left turn above him. He is afraid that there might be a collision so he speeded up and passed the school bus. There's no collision in the whole process because he avoided it. But the school bus driver, later on, asked his information and took picture of his car. What my friend may face? Thank you!

State v. Moran 202 NJ 311 (2010)

The license suspension provision of N.J.S.A. 39:5-31, which is published in the Motor Vehicle Code of the New Jersey Statutes Annotated, is not “hidden,” and defendant, like all motorists, is presumed to know the law. To ensure that license suspensions meted out pursuant to N.J.S.A. 39:5-31 are imposed in a reasonably fair and uniform manner, so that similarly situated defendants are treated similarly, the Court today defines the term “willful violation” contained in N.J.S.A. 39:5-31 and enunciates sentencing standards to guide municipal court and Law Division judges
