Q: I live in Maryland my child will be 18 in a month once she is 18 can her mother ask for child support. I don't pay now
We have legal joint and physical custody at this time. Would that also mean she would have to change that first
A: If the child also lives in Maryland, then you most likely would not be required to pay child support past age 18. If the child lives elsewhere the mother could seek child support based on that state's child support laws. Physical custody only affects the amount of child support, not whether you to pay at all. Legal custody has no effect on child support in Maryland (usually).
