It depends on the value of your open award for benefits. You are entitled to lifetime medical benefits for related medical treatment, regardless of whether the injury is permanent or not.
If your injury is serious enough that you are likely to require substantial future medical expenses (surgery, etc.), the employer's insurance carrier may wish to settle and close out the claim. However, if you do not have health insurance this would probably not be in your best interest.
If it is highly unlikely that you may need any additional treatment and have made a full recovery and are able to work at full duty again, they have little incentive to offer a settlement.
