Bronx, NY asked in Consumer Law, Personal Injury and Workers' Compensation for New York

Q: Sold all my structured settlement payments (25yrs worth) before the 2002 protection act, can I get them or some back?

1st transaction was in 1997-I sold 3yrs. 2nd transaction was in 1999-sold 5yrs. 3rd transaction was in 2001-sold 2yrs. 4th transaction was in 2002 sold 10yrs.

I think I have 5yrs left of my payment which started in 1997 until 5-1-2022 but jg wentworth claims I sold them all 25yrs of my monthly payments. I never saw a judge for any of these transactions. Can someone help me find out if I have any payments left and if I was given a fair amount of money for each transactions.

A: You can ask the holder of the structure for a statement of account, and can look at your wentworth paperwork, but generally the answer is no. Why not ask the lawfirm that set this up?

If you are over 21 the law assumes you have the right to contract with firms to sell away your money.
