Q: Can a judge give full custody without talking about it

A: Normally, the judge is supposed to communicate the basis for a custody decision either orally or in writing. There are some exceptions. Without more information, it's not possible to guess what exactly happened in your situation. If you disagree with a custody order, you may be able to appeal it (within 10 days from a Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court). Talk to a lawyer in the area where the case was heard.
