Q: Do I need a lawyer to represent me in order to fight an improper mountain driving charge?
I was in an accident on my way to work. It was 7am, -40 degrees and the roads were nothing but ice. I am not from Colorado originally. I came from Florida. It was a posted speed limit of 35 with a suggested 15. I was driving between 15 and 20, and to what I believed to be extremely cautious. My vehicle slid into the other lane on the curve I was driving and there was an oncoming car which proceeded to drive toward me. We ended up colliding. I am being charged with improper mountain driving which is negatively impacting my license and insurance and so forth. I do not believe I deserve the ticket. I was driving as carefully as I could. I do not know what more I could have done to be more careful.
A: You have reasonable grounds to challenge the ticket. Most people do not hire lawyers to challenge tickets for money reasons, but a lawyer can make the whole process easier. This is a link to a NOLO book about challenging tickets: https://www.amazon.com/Beat-Your-Ticket-Court-Win/dp/1413319157/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1489508024&sr=8-1&keywords=nolo+beat+your+ticket . You can also call around to see what your local lawyers would change.
