Tacoma, WA asked in Employment Law and Employment Discrimination for Oregon

Q: HR told me my job was safe for 6 months. Have the recorded audio. Then they fired me after 12 weeks of FMLA. Shocked.

Had to go on leave and get temp disability because I needed surgery due to my disability. I had been calling in every 3 days until doc told me I needed surgery. Then I called HR. The head of HR told me that #1-no idea I was gone. #2- my job was safe for 6 months while I was sick and healing. I have had some shifty landlords and the like so I auto record all phone calls. I have this recording as well as every call, text, email and letter up until and after my termination. 3 days before the day my employer says I was due back to work, I received a letter from my employer stating that I was to be terminated. I had no idea I was due back until that letter. As soon as I received the letter, I panicked and sent an email requesting a reasonable accommodation to my employer for extra healing time due to disability. They refused to negotiate and said that if they had to spend money, that would be unreasonable.I think they are barely skating by on the legal side. Can they lie then fire me for it?

A: Not sure why this popped up for Oregon, since it says you posted from Tacoma. Anyway, find a local employment law attorney to discuss.
