Q: if my wife abandoned me 14 years ago with no corresponding how can i get a divorce. ive tried to find her

A: This can be a problem, but is not without a remedy. You can begin an action by filing a Summons with Notice (with New York's "Automatic Orders" included) with the clerk in your county of residence, and the purchase of an index number ($210). Either after or before, you can also bring a motion asking the court to give you permission to serve the papers by, for example, publication in the local papers available in the vicinity of her last known address. Once done according to the court's order, you can then take a judgment by default (assuming she doesn't pop-up in the time specified by the court).
