Q: We just purchased a home and our A/C was broken the first time we tried to use it. Can we take the seller to court?

We purchased our home April 20 2017. We had a home inspection maybe 2 weeks before. During the inspection, it was not warm enough to test our A/C units (According to our inspector). (we have 2 1.5 ton units) it was probably about 70 degrees in the home at the time. Our inspector told us the units were old and would most likely need to be replaced in the next few years. We asked the seller if they were in working condition an they assured us they were. We asked for money in an escrow account just in case. He said no, they worked last time he had them running (summer 2016)

2 weeks after we moved in, we tried to run the a/c and of course BOTH units are broken. We had 2 companies out to look at them. One will not start at all (both companies said a wire is cut somewhere) and the other runs but is out of freon and the compressor wont start.

We were quoted at $2700 for EACH unit. Do we have any chance of winning if we take him to court?
