Milwaukee, WI asked in Family Law and Juvenile Law for Illinois

Q: Looking to become emancipated. Can someone explain the process/rules of filing for emancipation in the state of Illinois

I'm 17, and lived with my legal guardian, who hasn't adopted me. She doesn't agree with me becoming emancipated but has moved me out the house with my older sister in another state and can't enroll me in summer school for the time being but has already dissenrolled me from my old school. If I do petition my reason being would be educational barriers due solely to legal status seeing as how neither of us want me back at my guardian's home however I can't continue to my senior year in another state and desperately want to finish high school successfully like I planned.

A: Your guardian should give written permission for u to go to school there and to allow another person to seek medical care for u. Also, the person u r living with could seek to get guardianship of you. You do not qualify for emancipation because you are not self supporting.
