Houston, TX asked in Tax Law for California

Q: Can we get back our money for false representation on a Tax Company out of California?

We paid $2700 to get our 2014 taxes settlement on January 2017 with the Tax Group Center out of Calabasas, CA. Received a second call asking for another $2700 because according to the Rep she was on the phone with the IRS and needed the money ASAP because they had to file all three years 2014-2015-2016, so we did send the money. A month went by and no one was calling us back. When I finally spoke to someone and told them what accured she stated the the person had lied, those were her words. Now we spoke to the Supervisor who said would refund back the $2700, which we have yet to receive. Now the Power of Attorney Lawyer stated he had not received our case, but would look into it, which he did. Because he himself felt uncomfortable with the whole situation he quit the company. Do we have a leg to stand on?

A: If you've been wronged, you can sue in small claims court and report the business to the Attorney General. More details are necessary to provide a professional analysis of your issue. The best first step is an Initial Consultation with an Attorney. A: That is unfortunate that you have been through so much trouble. It is extremely important to know exactly whom you are dealing with. Generally, law firms wouldn’t do this to clients. The one on the phone asking for money right away doesn’t sound right. One needs to know about the terms of your contract to advise you properly.
