Q: How long could my brother be locked up for if he committed an act unintentionally and has never been in legal trouble

He is charged with criminal damage and arson though no one was injured, killed and no permanent damage was done and he did it unintentionally.

A: You don't know what witnesses or the alleged victim told the police. If there is probable cause (that more likely than not a crime is committed), then officers will make an arrest. Criminal Damage to Property is a criminal offense and can be either a misdemeanor or a felony depending on the circumstances. You can contact the jail to see how much money you would need to post in bond to get your brother out of jail
