Q: need legal advice.

Hello. The father of my child has been absent from his life for over 10 years now. My son is 13 years old. He made contact to connect with him last month. I allowed him to have his number so they can talk, and text. Then I get a letter about court. Parentage civil case. He wants visitation rights. He has abandon my son for many years. And I just want to no what to expect. Please help thank you so much.

A: No matter what happened, the judge has to decide what is best for the child now.

A: You should hire an attorney or look at a legal aide organization if you cannot afford one. The courts now are hesitant to deny father's visitation rights completely--the court might order supervised visitations with the father. Each case is different and the court will decide what is in the best interest of the father. Is he paying child support? If not, then maybe you can have an attorney or contact the state's attorney's child support office about getting child support ordered
