Q: Child Support Question
I been on child support through the county for the past 13 years its been taken out of my paycheck. I come home yesterday and received a packet in the mail from the child support services department that a court hearing for this case has been scheduled for me. In the packet i have FL-685 i am not sure what its for and how to fill it out or if i have to fill it out? and if there is a place i can learn how to fill it out. This is in California, Los Angeles. Also i been on child support for the past 13 years why would the court be handling Child support modification? I though the child support office handles modifications and not the courts.
A: The other parent could be trying to modify or change child support. The other parent may be trying to increase the amount of support. There could be other legal issues to address, such as if you are not paying something that is required. More facts are required to provide a better analysis. Do not ignore the packet in the mail. Seek some type of legal help to file a response. The self-help center may be an option to provide you with assistance. Make sure to read their moving paperwork since it should let you know what they are seeking. Hiring a family law attorney is probably a good idea.
