Q: Kids father died in an auto accident in 2014 would they be able to get social security by him being dead

If so how do i file or get help?

A: There are funeral benefits and other death benefits that the surviving spouse and minor children may be eligibile for. Widows only received benefits if caring for children of the deceased up to age 16 (unless the children are disabled). After the children reach age 16, they are eligible for partial benefits at age 60. They must apply at the social security office. Children in school get benefits up to age 18 (or 19 if still in high school).

Note: there may be death benefits from the car crash under the car's policy.
