Q: Can an officer lie about the reason he pulled you over and then ticket you for a crime?
I was pulled over by a state trooper who said my daytime running light was out on my car....I was ticketed for DWLS but when I got home my lights were not out? Do I have any options??
A: Police cannot lie about the reason for pulling you over; but they can be mistaken. In other words, even if you were somehow able to prove that you had appropriate and operational safety lights, the officer is allowed to have thought that they were out.
