Q: Can you get arrested if you have a warrant for seeking help from the police?
I have a warrant due to no proof of insurance even though there was insurance on the company vehicle. The business owner didn't have it in the vehicle. When I went into the station that day to show proof they said the system didn't have the ticket in yet. The owner said he would take care of it but never did and now I have a warrant. I am wondering if I call the police for domestic help or to file a complaint against my boy friend, will I be arrested when I speak to them?
A:
You need to contact the court and ask how they want you to address this warrant. Many district courts have walk-in times when you can appear in court on your own. This should be a simple enough issue to fix with possible fines / costs.
If you have police contact while you have an outstanding warrant, the police may not have any choice but to take you in.
