Auburn, CA asked in Real Estate Law and Probate for Louisiana

Q: My father passed in 1986, my brother became the administrator of his estate. He left no will. I and my 4 siblings live

in another state. We trusted our brother. He claims there was very little for us to claim. I didnt recieve anything not even notice from the estate or court. I forgot about it over time thinking there was nothing. Now that La. has online records I decided to search info for my Family Tree. I found conveyance from his estate to his children. Also a probate court order dated 7 yrs later stating he had bank accounts and stocks and property. It ordered his estate be divided equally between all his children. I was never notified My phone is public, and my siblings know where I live.I tried contacting the probate attorney and he has not bothered to call. My brother has moved and I can not find him. How do I deal with this? Ive verified there is unclaimed money (partial amount due) through the states website. They want all of us to file on the same application to retrieve it.

Also the order lists several account numbers but no other info. The order is on file with the clerk recorder

A: Probate counsel needs to look at the succession pleadings and determine if things were mishandled, as appears from the circumstances. Potential remedy may start with a demand to the sibling and brother, but chances are, if the brother misappropriated estate assets, there may be none left at this time. Still, depending upon brother's circumstances and financial situation, potential remedy may still be available.
