Q: A second judge has appeared on my docket. He's not the presiding judge. The defense attorney quit abruptly.

Auto accident civil case.

A: Judges can change on a case. That is not unusual. As to the defense lawyer- in order to "quit" an order of withdrawal must be entered by the court. I can't tell from your post whether you are the Plaintiff or Defendant and I would need more information to comment further.
