Riverhead, NY asked in Traffic Tickets for New York

Q: I received traffic ticket for speeding. I pled not guilty. There was court date on ticket. I sent it back.

Never heard back from court. Original date is tomorrow. What do I do? Even though I pled not guilty and haven't heard back do I go tomorrow?

A: The date on the ticket is the date by which you must plead guilty or not guilty. If you are allowed to plea by mail, you only need to submit the not guilty plea by that date. The court will mail out a conference notice to the address provided, but the court date is almost always after the date on the ticket. So it makes sense that you didn't hear back from the court before the date on the ticket.
