Q: Real estate not wanted. Does the estate have to take it? (California)
Our mother passed away about 7 years ago. The estate was simple, and probate was not deemed necessary. We learned yesterday that the county assessor still has a small, unusable piece of property in her name, with taxes still accruing. Is the estate obligated to take this, as well as the debt? We'd thought she'd let that go back to the county decades ago.
