Q: I got a ticket for reckless driving because brakes failed to stop down hill in rain & I borrowed it from a friend
The car was not mine & inspection was up to date. Had no idea there was anything wrong with it when I borried it. My 2
young kids were with me we had just left St. Marys Hospital, its raining, going down a hill, at night 9:30PM, not going fast at all, tried to stop at the 1st light & brakes would not stop even used both feet, so we go thru red light, & a truck hits us flying down road on cell phone! No one got hurt or killed just kids freaked out its our 1st accident ever. The Virginia cops gave me a ticket for reckless driving because of failing equpment on car. Iam 45 years old never had a accident. Plus I borrowed the car to go hospital because my mom had a stroke. Am I still guilty of that ticket if the car was not mine, inspection was up to date, & had no idea anything was wronge with car? Please help got to be in court on 11-20?!! thanks so much
A: Contact an experienced criminal defense lawyer for a consultation. The charge may be dismissed or amended to a traffic infraction. It is charged as a Class 1 misdemeanor and, if convicted, you may receive a suspended license and possible jail time. I do not recommend going to court unprepared. My office offers a free consultation if you want to contact me at 703-352-9044.
