New York, NY asked in Personal Injury for New Jersey

Q: What can I do about my lawyer ignoring my phone calls for over a year

My daughter was the passenger in a car collision. The driver of the car that hit them took full responsibility. I got a lawyer. Signed a contract. The other girl settled already and my lawyer didn't call me back in a year. I finally left a voicemail and he gave me his cell phone number. He put the demand in after I told him the other girl settled already 6 months ago. Now the adjuster has had everything and the demand and its been 6 weeks and again the lawyer is ignoring us. What should we do?

A: Contact the attorney by e-mail or letter requesting a status of the case and a copy of the demand letter. You can also request a meeting with the attorney. Each case (even when there are other injury victims) should be evaluated on its own merits including the injuries sustained, medical bills, available insurance coverage, and ongoing problems suffered by the victim. The case is still pending and you still have an attorney in place. Hopefully, in the end, the case will work itself out and your daughter will receive a fair settlement.

A: Sit down in person with the attorney. Look at the file. If disatisfied, contact a member of the NJ Assn for Justice and see if they will step in.
