A: I can't really answer without more details. Is this for a trial transcript on appeal? If so the Court Reporter is not required to file the transcript until paid, and you appeal can be dismissed. If the transcript has been made by Order of the Court, you could be held in contempt, and finally, the Court Reporter could, and probably will sue you for the charges. Your best bet, overall, is to contact the reporter, and work out some payment arrangements.

BUT, if the other side arranged for the deposition, they are responsible for paying for the "Original" copy of the deposition, and the charge to you is for a "copy", if you did not order it, you are not responsible for payment. However, having a copy will be very useful for your lawyer in the case. If you don't have one, I suggest you hire one promptly.
