Lakewood, NJ asked in Criminal Law and Employment Law for New Jersey

Q: Moral Turpitude ?

I was arrested on charges of shoplifting. The charges were dismissed and amended to a municipal ordinance. Since the conviction was dismissed and amended to a municipal ordinance this would not be a moral turpitude crime?

municipal ordinance petty offense? Moral Turpitude???

This is not an immigration question!!!!! This is an employment question for a investigator position with the state law/

A: Depending the records the department has available it may or may not be, the best person to ask this question is your lawyer who handled your case as he/she will know the facts of your case the best to provide you with the best answer. If your lawyer doesn't know or you don't have a lawyer, you should get a lawyer to review the question that practices employment law before giving you an answer as you never want to give a wrong answer on a form for a position.

A: The problem with law enforcement is any arrest. Here it was for a theft offense whether considered moral turpitude or not. You were not convicted. The ordinance is not criminal. It depends on the regulations of the organization. My guess is you will need to explain that arrest.
