Q: Today I was driving and passed a bus with flashing yellow lights. I was honked at. Will a ticket be mailed to me?
Today I passed a school bus with flashing yellow lights. The bus driver honked at me, yet I did not see flashing red lights, a stop sign, or a stop arm. After passing the bus I was stopped at a red light at an intersection. Another bus was in the lane next to me and it honestly looked like it was getting my licence plate number down. Will I get a ticket in the mail? Or receive a phone call? I would never want to endanger any children and I'm incredibly worried about this. I've never had a ticket before.
A: Passing a school bus with yellow lights on is not illegal. Passing while the stop arm and red lights flashing is illegal. You will not get a ticket in the mail. If the bus driver was getting your plate, you will likely get a visit from a North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper. If so, keep your mouth shut and do not say anything.
