Denver, CO asked in Animal / Dog Law for Colorado

Q: Can anything be done about someone who only takes their dog out to pee, no exercise or walks ever?

The dog is aggresive and it's a great Dane, I have never met an aggressive great Dane until this one. I believe the dog is aggressive because he never gets walks or exercise. He gets to go out twice a day and just to pee, occasionally I see him poop. We have talked to animal control because he has lunged at my tiny dog multiple times and other people's dogs and they say nothing can be done unless he hurts someone or another dog. I am curious what animal rescues can do and such. I feel for this dog.

A: Unfortunately, animal control is who we typically rely on to address potential issues of neglect. You can reach out to rescues in your area that do community outreach and see if any of them are willing to go talk to the owner. However, unless the owner wants to change things, there's no way to force him unless the behavior becomes criminal.
