Reidsville, NC asked in Traffic Tickets and Car Accidents for North Carolina

Q: I have 2 tickets for same issue. One court date is Jan 4 and other is Jan 24. Is there a way i can post pone the 1st

Received ticket for expired tags in nov. Before could pay for inspection was in a wreck and they gave me another ticket for expired tags. Right now my car is at the body shop I don't even know if I'm getting it back because they're talking about total lossing it.i won't be able to have anything done by the 4th. Since its for the same issue is there a way i can just go to the jan 24 court date? I just have no idea who to ask or where to go

A: You need to go to both court dates. When you miss court, the Court usually issues a Failure to Appear - and depending on the severity of the charge, an Order for Arrest could also be issued. A Failure to Appear notification gets sent to the DMV, which will indefinitely suspend your driving privileges until you are able to resolve it, either by paying the Failure to Appear fee ($200.00) or by having a judge strike the Order.

Best advice - get some documentation from your body shop about the car's status, and go to court on the 4th. Present the documentation; the State may dismiss the charges, or give you a continuance to sort things out. Same thing on the January 24th court date.

Do not skip court.

A: You phone the court clerk that handles citations, ask for a "continuance". She'll tell you how.
