New Port Richey, FL asked in Car Accidents for Florida

Q: I unknowingly drove a car with no insurance and I don’t own a car. The fault was given to me. What to do?

I was taken to emergency room. Police showed up and gave me tickets. Told me I was at fault. I was in so much pain I could not think straight so I tried to stay quiet.

The accident was not like it was reported. I was hit in the side. The cop said it was head on. I heard brakes screeching and a crash behind me. The driver must have hit the pole in the middle of the road. I heard people talking around me about a tire coming off the car. How can that happen from a scratch to my car?

A: Get photos. See if there is a camera at the intersection or if a business has a security camera that points to it. If cited plead not guilty (but get a copy of the police report). If you own a car or are in the household of a relative with a car, you may have coverage that will cover you even if driving a loaned/borrowed vehicle. If cited suggest you contact an attorney who handles citations in the county where the case will be heard because there may be other fallout such as liability because you unwittingly drove a car without insurance.
