Q: Confused which points are calculated when facing possible suspension of my license?
I got convicted of a 6 point speeding ticket September of 2015 the date of the violation was April 2014. Fast forward 2017 I got convicted March with 4 points the violation date was February 2017. I got an other violation July 2017 and it's a 5 point violation. I keep hearing about this "18- month period" does that mean they will cout the new 5 points & 4 points as my balance or will they count in all 15 therefor suspending my license? I live in NY

The 18 month DMV counting period, for the purposes of suspending your driver's license, counts from the date of violation, regardless of the date of conviction. We hear that insurance companies count from the date of conviction.
