Q: I was ticketed for operating an unregistered vehicle in GA because I had forgotten to put on my new licence plate?
I hit some black ice and crashed into a guardrail, totaling my car. When the police officer ran my license plate, he told me that my registration expired in August 2017 and gave me a ticket (The date of the ticket was Dec 9th, 2017). I only realized what happened when I found the license plate that I should have put on my car in August, but had somehow forgotten about.
Am I at risk of jail time or suspended license since it shows that my car was unregistered so long? Since I had actually registered my car but forgot to put on my new plate, should I fight the ticket?
Any help is appreciated, thank you so much!
A:
Depends how it's written. If it's failure to display ....then that's what you did. As long as you can show registration, you should not have to worry about any suspension.
If it's written no registration, take the registration into the cop see if they'll change it.
