A: When a report is made to DSS they conduct an investigation to determine if there is evidence of abuse or neglect. If they find no such evidence after investigation, they will issue an "Unfounded" report and close the case. If they find there is evidence of abuse or neglect they will open a case and assign a caseworker.

The first thing you need to do is cooperate with DSS in their investigation but do NOT sign anything that requires you to admit to abuse/neglect and then seek legal advice specific to the allegations being made because one sized does not fit all. While DSS is involved in a case, it puts on hold any court action one parent might try to bring against the other parent to enforce a prior custody order concerning the child/children.
