Q: If one is tried for first degree murder but the verdict is that the murder was necessary, what would the punishment be?

In the state of New Jersey. Also this is purely theoretical

A: Murder is never necessary under the law unless it is to protect ones own life, although some states do allow it for protection of others but then generally it is charged as manslaughter. . .
