Q: In georgia, when a grouphome runaway (DFCS) turns 18, can they renter society & start working & living a normal life?
my close friend ran away from her Atlanta grouphome at 15/16 & is 2 months away from her 18 birthday. she wants to know if there is a process she has to go through to renter society?will their be legal punishments? after her birthday can she just go get all her identification information & start working? will she have to go through anything with DFCS?should she just wait it out till her birthday or just return back before? what are her options after she turns 18?
A: A group home is for orphans, not some sort of punishment like jail. She's already probably too old to be adjudicated unruly. Her bigger problem is going to be getting a driver's license, a job, etc. Best of luck to her.
