Santa Cruz, CA asked in Contracts, Criminal Law, Personal Injury and Products Liability for California

Q: Can they legally do this or can I Sue. What should I do.

Bought a car from a tow yard, payed registration. Few days later the previous owner showed up at my house wanted his car back tells me the tow yard gave him my information. He showed up again the next day and then few days later at my work wanted to get his car back. I went to tow yard to try and figure this out and he said by law he is obligated disclose this information to the previous owner. I don't know what to do, if I tell the guy to beet it I'm afraid he will try something drastic due to him become homeless according to the story he keeps telling me. I just payed for full coverage insurance too.

A: Suing will be costly and you have no damages other than a third party being an idiot. If they had the title--which I assume they did--check to make sure he endorsed it to them. If so you are the titled owner. Park in visible areas.Tell him his complaint is with the tow yard, not you.
