Denver, CO asked in Animal / Dog Law for Colorado

Q: Is dog repellent legal in Colorado? Found some in my drive way, we have 4 super friendly dogs.

We let our dogs go out to the front yard which is fenced in, the drive way is right next to the yard.

A: It would depend on the ingredients in the repellant. There are limitations on pepper spray and the amount of pure pepper that can be in sprays/repellants. I would check the ingredients (if listed, tho it should be) and measure it against the legal limits for pepper spray.

A: I think the real issue is whether it's legal for someone to put any type of dog repellent on YOUR property, and I would say absolutely not. You will want to get a surveillance camera to catch whomever is doing this in the act, and to have the substance tested to determine whether or not it's poison. This could very well be criminal trespass.
