Fort Wayne, IN asked in Traffic Tickets for Michigan

Q: I got ticket speeding 50/60 and also ticket car no insurance .But i now have insurance

For ticket no insurance is misdemeanor

And i have court date

How i do about this case should i plead guilty or not guilty in misdemenor.

A: First, I recommend that you retain an attorney. A misdemeanor is not something you should attempt yourself. An attorney may have a working relationship with the city attorney/prosecutor and may be able to obtain a better outcome than you can yourself. Not always, but in most cases.

You should plead not guilty and/or not responsible and ask the the traffic matter be scheduled for a formal hearing. If you had insurance at the time of the ticket, but did not have proof of it, file a copy of your proof of insurance binder with the Court and ask the Court to dismiss that case.

With respect to the remaining ticket, an attorney may be able to negotiate that ticket down to a charge with lower or no points and may be able to prevent notice of the ticket from reaching your insurance company.
