Q: So what if I don't want to plea to what I'm not guilty of, and the court appointed seems to want me to. STRESSED
He deems himself as very nonchalant about a serious matter to my family and I.
A:
If you don’t want to plead guilty or no contest to a charge, you don’t have to. While attorneys are not supposed to try and force/coerce their client to plea, we are supposed to provide counsel and advice. In many cases, the advice is going to be that the client take an offer. Have you sat down with your attorney to discuss why he thinks you should take the deal, and what he thinks of your chances if you took the case to trial are?
That being said, some attorneys are pretty forceful in encouraging pleas; if your attorney is trying to push you to take a plea even though you have already repeatedly said you won’t take the offer, and you feel that he is trying to coerce you (or mislead you, etc.) solely in order to resolve your case sooner, then you might want to approach the court about getting another attorney.
